This is Trauma: When It's Hard to Stick to a Healthy Diet

Most of us know generally how to eat healthy. We can even look at the last 72 hours of our life and find moments when we could have chosen healthier food options but didn't.

When you're trying to conceive or are pregnant, you're inundated with advice on what to eat and what to avoid. So many women feel the pressure to get it "just right", worrying if what they're putting in their mouths is affecting baby negatively. When you're postpartum or into motherhood and want to reclaim some health, there are countless weightloss, strength-training and healthy mom diets available.

And yet, those diets are hard to stick to. Sometimes because they're unrealistic but most of the time that's not the case.

What most prenatal and postpartum diets miss

It's easy to blame ourselves for making bad choices but the reality is most diet advice is missing a critical element. We cannot make conscious choices about our food when we're actively in a trauma response. We even become disconnected from our taste sensations when we live with unresolved trauma.

There is no amount of dietary advice that we can hear that will keep us on track of our health goals if we don't address the unresolved trauma first.

When you do resolve that trauma, you will taste food again.

I've seen it happen with clients and Healing Hearts members and it's amazing! You will know what your body needs. You will be able to say no to that extra glass of wine and say yes to that apple and feel really powerful in that choice. Because that's exactly what it becomes: A choice. Not your dietician's choice. Not your OBs choice. YOUR choice.

You're not weak. You're not incapable of giving up popcorn, soda, chips or candy or whatever you can't seem to stop eating. You're not broken. This is trauma.

What do you do about it?

I'll tell you what you can't do about it first! You cannot think yourself into healthy eating because trauma is not resolved by thinking. You can't force yourself to eat healthy because it will work for a few minutes and then you'll slip back, not because of a lack of will power but because of a nervous system that's stuck in survival mode.

What you can do is learn how to regulate your nervous system so that you can turn it into "safe mode", just like a thermostat that you're able to turn off when the house becomes too hot.

This is exactly what we cover in Healing Hearts. If you are trying to conceive or are done growing your family, join us now and learn how to release the trauma that you've been living with for weeks, months or years. This is your time.

Let's finally get you the relief you deserve.
