On Bed Rest? What You and Your Loved Ones Need to Know

Have you ever had a moment where you met someone and from the first moment you talked everything just clicked? You got along so well, you finished each other's sentences, had a similar sense of humor and you wondered, “Where have you been my whole life?”

That’s exactly how I felt when I first met Dr. Kat Kaeni a few months back.

She’s a psychologist specializing in maternal mental health and crushing mental health stigma. She’s super sweet, extremely smart and on the cutting edge of all things mental health!

Could she be any more amazing?

So, I was honored when she told me she was a fan of my work and asked me to be on her podcast, not once but for a series of four podcasts!

We’ve talked about all things related to high-risk pregnancy

We've chatted about the emotional challenges of pregnancy complications and what partners, loved ones, doctors and therapists must do to support a woman during a high-risk pregnancy to help her have a safer pregnancy.

Most recently, though, we talked about bed rest, because bed rest is one of the hardest experiences a woman with a high-risk pregnancy goes through. With more than one million women landing on bed rest every year in the United States and over 40 million worldwide, more resources and support needs to be given to women who have been thrown into this bubble of fear.

On this podcast we talked about:

  • The different types of bed rest and when you may need to be in each one to make sure you're on the right type of bed rest

  • When bed rest is recommended during pregnancy

  • How bed rest impacts your mental health and how that affects your pregnancy and baby

  • How to cope on bed rest so your emotional well-being doesn’t exacerbate your pregnancy complications

  • Why advocating for yourself is the best thing you can do for your baby and how to do it

Plus, I shared with her the one thing that no one talks about when it comes to bed rest that takes every bed rest mom by surprise.

Check out the Mom & Mind Show about how you can get through bed rest with less anxiety and feeling more empowered here or on iTunes (episode #27).
