"Don't lose hope" sounds like really supportive advice for anyone going through a difficult time in their life, right? It's positive, it's encouraging, it reminds us about the importance of hope in our abilities to find strength during the most trying of times.
But for many women and couples going through infertility, a high-risk pregnancy, a NICU stay or parenting a child with medical complications...this is actually terrible advice, especially if they have to make an impossible decision on their family-building or parenting journey.
On this episode, I share with you why as well as give you tips and strategies on how to make a difficult decision without regret or guilt.
Why I cringe when I hear people tell couples going through infertility or a high-risk pregnancy "Don't lose hope"
How that advice makes women and couples shut down and feel isolated
How this advice is particularly unhelpful for couples having to make a difficult decision - like whether to stop trying for another baby, whether to terminate a pregnancy or to stop medical treatment for a baby in the NICU
The problem most couples run into when trying to make an impossible medical decision that leaves them regretting or feeling guilty about their decision for months and years to come.
How to make a difficult medical decision without that guilt and regret so you can find peace moving forward
The story of 2 of my clients who had to make impossible decisions during fertility treatment and a high-risk pregnancy and almost chose the wrong ones because they kept hearing "Don't lose hope"
