054: What Couples Need to Know About Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

Loss is devastating. It's something no parent should ever have to experience.

Recurrent loss is even more heartbreaking, especially when you don't have any idea why it keeps happening and what you can do about it.

On this episode, I chat with specialist, Dr. Lora Shahine about what couples need to know about recurrent pregnancy loss and what you can do about it to optimize your reproductive and pregnancy health.

Episode highlights...

  • How many losses you need to experience to qualify for the diagnosis "recurrent pregnancy loss" and why that matters

  • Why some doctors don't follow the "traditional" definition of recurrent pregnancy loss

  • How the "unexplained infertility" impacts a couple's experience in making sense of recurrent pregnancy loss

  • The difference between chemical pregnancy and clinical pregnancy loss and if they should be treated differently

  • The most common reasons why women and couples experience pregnancy loss

  • Factors couples need to identify ahead of time to optimize for pregnancy health and reduce risk of recurrent loss

  • Why losses occur even with a "normal" embryo during IVF

  • What tests to ask your doctor for if you've experienced 2 miscarriages in a row

  • When it's really safe to tell your family and friends that you're pregnant

If you’ve experienced loss of any kind, whether chemical pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage or recurrent pregnancy loss, it is not your fault. You are not broken.
